This article comes straight from an interesting study from the University of Tennessee, called "Bending the Chain: The Surprising Challenge of Integrating Purchasing and Logistics". The UT investigators found a serious disconnect between logistics and purchasing functions and concluded that the communication and interaction between these units tends to be casual and unstructured. Typically, companies manage the systems in silos as entirely separate entities. 180 industry professionals represented a wide range of industries were surveyed for this interesting piece of logistics content.
