After a thriller which was more exciting than ever, Ukraine came out as the winner of the 61st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, last weekend in Sweden.
This year, the final was more exciting than ever because the organization mixed up the voting system.
26 countries and songs remained after the semi-finals earlier in the week and faced each other in the final. Juries (50%) and public vote (50%) from all 41 participating countries together determined the outcome. For the first time, they gave each separate points from one to twelve, making the scores double layers.
It turned out to an absolute thriller, with a neck and neck race between Ukraine and Russia. When Australia was declared the winner by the jury, the beautiful Ukrainian singer Jamala earned the most points given by the public with her song 1944 . Australia finished second and Russia third.
Holland's own Douwe Bob earned a respectful 11th place with his catchy country song Slow Down. The young Dutch received 153 points , 114 from the jury and 39 .
Australia attended the song contest for the second time in history, the event is very popular among the population there.
