New land in the sea

Maasvlakte 2 is the extension of the port of Rotterdam. Directly to the west of the current port and industrial area, a new top European location for port operations and industry is being created in the North Sea. When work started on Maasvlakte 2 in 2008, the sea was 17 metres deep at that spot. Now the first phase of construction is complete and a port area of 700 ha has been created, on which container handling companies RWG (Rotterdam World Gateway Container Terminals ) and APMT (APM Terminals) will soon be operational. Shortly, Maasvlakte 2 will cover a net area of 1,000 hectares of industrial sites, situated directly on deep water.
